Sunday I received an email from an exasperated reader who had been trying to reach out to rescue groups, the police and the local dog warden to get help for a dog she believed to be in peril. I’ve been in that situation before where I’ve come across an animal that needs help and no matter how many organizations I called to get help – I’ll often get the run around. So I reprinted the information she gave me on my blog and was pleased to get a call from the Dog Warden bright and early the next day. He assured me that he was going to look into the situation. I encouraged him to let me know how things get resolved, as I wanted to post an update. UPDATE: I just spoke to Deputy Smith of the Lake County Dog Wardens office. She has confirmed that they investigated the situation and that the dogs are living in good health and living conditions. She went onto say that the dogs are licensed, vetted, etc.
In the meantime, I’ve received some emails defending the owner. According to them, the dog warden and local rescue group have investigated and saw no problem with the dog(s) or the living conditions. I am hearing that from one side of the story, but the original story was from only one side as well so it’s only fair to publish everyone’s point of view. Besides, I’d rather report a false alarm vs. an abuse story anyway. UPDATE: .. and the good news is that the dogs are fine.
I’ve taken down the original post until I can an update from everyone involved. I do take some comfort that calls were answered and the situation was looked into soon after I posted the information. If the post had anything to do with that, then great!
